Marika Kotopouli (1888-1954)

Back to where you came from. The same text in Greek.

Marika Kotopouli {Μαρίκα Κοτοπούλη} (1888-1954) [Aleksis Minotis]. Marika Kotopouli knew great success in diverse roles ranging from tragedy to revue. Let it suffice for us to mention "Electra" {Ilektra ~ Ηλέκτρα}, "Oresteia" {Ορέστεια}, Hoffmansthal's "Electras" (on tour in America) and Sophocles' {Σοφοκλής} "Hecuba" {Ekavi ~ Εκάβη}.

In 1908 she formed her own theatrical company [Omonias Square 1925] [Omonias Square 1953]. She also performed plays by modern dramatists such as Grigorios Ksenopoulos {Γρηγόριος Ξενόπουλος}, Horn {Χορν} and Sinodinou {Συνοδινού}. The state became involved in her company in 1936 and it staged "As You Like It" by William Shakespeare [People].

During the Greek-Italian war [Contents] her company staged a "patriotic" revue.
