Kalamata History

Back to where you came from. The same text in Greek.

The Kalamata {Καλαμάτα} electric tram was inaugurated in 1910, and it followed a cyclical route, passing from the main square, Aristomenous {Αριστομένους} Street, 23rd of March {23ης Μαρτίου} Square and Ipapandis {Υπαπαντής}, Faron {Φαρών} and Navarinou {Ναυαρίνου} Streets, up to the Customs House and the port.

The line was 3.1 miles long and the depot was near the restaurant "Garden of Eden" {Κήπος τής Εδέμ}.

It operated until the Nazi German occupation [Contents], and it was run by the Apergis {Απέργης} company.
