Keratsini

Back to where you came from. The same text in Greek.

In the antiquity Keratsini {Κερατσίνι} was called The Port Of Hercules {Λιμήν Ηρακλέους} and according to one scenario it owes its name to "keraties" {κερατιές} which is the Greek word for locust trees. At first it was called Keratinion {Κερατήνιον}. Shortly before the 1821 Greek war of independence against Ottoman rule [Contents], there was a small settlement which was called Tseratsini {Τσερατσίνι}.
