"Agia Sofia" Children's Hospital

Back to where you came from. The same text in Greek.

"Agia Sofia" ({Αγία Σοφία} = Saint Sofia) Children's Hospital was founded on October 18th, 1896, by Princess, and later Queen, Sofia of Greece, in 13.75 acres of landed property which was donated by the Petrakis {Πετράκης} monastery under Princess Sofia's initiative.

Andreas Singkros {Ανδρέας Συγγρός}, Skilitsis {Σκυλίτσης}, Friedrich Wilhelm II Viktor Albrecht von Hohenzollern (1859-1941, Kaiser -Emperor- of Germany and König -King- of Prussia) and Царь Николай ІІ Александрович Романов (1868-1918, Czar Nikolai II Aleksandrovich Romanov, of Russia), offered financial support for the construction of the hospital.

The hospital's wards, which were inaugurated on March 20th, 1900, consisted of several pavilions instead of the usual ribbon development.

In 1912, on money donated by Marinos Korgialenis {Μαρίνος Κοργιαλένης}, a new ward started being constructed. However a lot of meddlesomeness was yet to come.
