The black color symbolizes the Homeland and Liberty's Cause till death. The red color symbolizes the independence of the Greek people.

This is one of the flags used by the Constitutionalists in Perahora {Περαχώρα}, after 1822. It is one of the special flags that continued to fly occasionally, despite the institution of a law that regulated the use of a certain flag.
