Malt
In Ancient Greece, besides loblolly, gruel and bread, they also used to brew up some kind of drink, made of barleycorn. This was a very cooling drink, but after drinking too much, they ended getting drunk on it. So they called this drink "drunkenness" {methi ~ μέθυ}, or "vrito" {βρήτο}, or kroumi {κρούμι}, or... "malt" {zithos ~ ζύθος}.
