The official name of Scotland Yard, is Metropolitan Police Force. The name Scotland Yard, comes from the small London street where Sir Robert Peel located police headquarters in 1829. Police headquarters moved to the Thames Embankment in 1890 and became known as New Scotland Yard. In 1967 it moved again to its present location in Westminster.
