Hands that don't smell of onion.
Do your hands smell nasty when you have been peeling onions? Rub them with a stainless
steel knife or spoon under cold water for 30 seconds. You will be surprised at the
results.
Getting burnt food off a saucepan.
So you left the saucepan on the hotplate too long and the pot roast left a thick black
crust on the bottom of the pan. Fill it with hot (but not boiling) water, add a measure of
detergent for washing clothes and leave it to soak overnight. In the morning the crust
will come off easily. Wash the saucepan with a sponge and washing up liquid. Rinse well.
Cleaning the mixer.
To get your mixer clean everywhere, even under the blades, half fill the mixer bowl with
warm water, add a little washing up liquid and set the mixer in motion for two or three
minutes.
For whiter whites.
Soak white clothes in a solution of one part vinegar to three parts hot water for 30
minutes and they will turn out whiter.
Save time.
Clean the fridge out while you are waiting for the meal to cook.
Bathroom tiles without limescale.
Wipe tiles down every time you have a shower or a bath and limescale will not collect on
them.
Get rid of smells from jars and vacuum flasks.
Get rid of smells from jars or vacuum flasks that have been stored for a long time with
their lids on by leaving half a cup of salt in them for two or three days. Rinse well with
plenty of water.
Shiny silver and plastic ware.
To shine silverware, line the bottom of a glass or plastic (but not metal) container with
aluminium foil. Add a handful of coarse salt and some very hot water. Leave knives, forks
and spoons propped up on the aluminium foil for 15 to 20 minutes. All that remains for you
to do is to wash them with a sponge, water and washing up liquid.
A use for worn towels.
Recycle old, worn-out towels. Cut them into a variety of shapes and sizes and use them in
the kitchen or for odd jobs around the house.
Shine furniture and shoes.
Do not throw unwanted shoulder pads away. They are excellent for polishing shoes and
furniture.
Useful dusters.
Use old, worn-out T-shirts as dusters and cleaning rags. They are soft and do not leave
fluff.
